We handle bicycle cases throughout New Mexico with our offices in Roswell and Albuquerque allowing us to represent clients throughout the state.

Not only is it likely that large medical bills have been incurred as a result of an accident on your bike, but it is certain that you will need a damaged bike repaired. Or you may ned a new bike.

Even if you wear a helmet or other safety protection, you are still largely unshielded from harm. When you are driving in a car, you are encased in thousands of pounds of steel and are severed by restraints such as seatbelts and airbags.

But, on a bicycle, none of those protections of being a motorist are available. What could have been a fender bender with no human injury where two vehicles are involved can turn deadly when a bicycle is involved.

Oftentimes, a bicycle accident is the result of a motorist’s negligence or general inattentiveness while a driver is maneuvering her vehicle. A motorist may neglect to see a bicyclist when pulling out of a drive or entering a street. Or a car may make a turn directly in front of a bicyclist.

Usually the injuries to bicyclists are caused by some variation of a driver’s failure to “share the road” with a bicyclist. This may be because the driver sees a bicyclist using the road as a renegade or someone who is not authorized to use the roadways. However, bicyclists are entitled to use the roadways just the same as motorists. If bicyclists and motorists alike were to recognize the value of sharing the roadway and understand that traffic laws apply to motorist and bicyclist alike, then tragic and fatal bicycle accidents could largely be prevented.
